Halloween and some Photoshop fun

Hope everyone a Happy Halloween

Last weekend I spent a warm perfect October day in the Berkshires at HIlltop Orchards/Furnace Brook Winery in Richmond, MA. I went to take photographs for them capturing their apple picking festivities. There was cider donut making, apple picking, tractor rides and wine tasting. The foliage was just starting to turn and the light was so beautiful. I met some really wonderful families including one family who comes to Hilltop annually from Canada to visit family, they pick apples and then spend the afternoon baking pies together. How wonderful is that?

I remember this day, I had glued a teacup together and secured it to a fancy carved table leg (a trash find). B and I poured birdseed into it and staked it in the flower bed. B was so delighted with the idea of the birds having a tea party. It was so pretty, but It only survived a day or so as the #@$% squirrels sent it tumbling. B and I went to salvage it, and Henna our hen discovered it. I was so happy I had my camera as I had brought it out with me to capture B all dressed up. Unfortunately I didn't expose the picture correctly and the focus was a bit off, but I love this photograph nonetheless, especially since Henna who was our first hen went missing that following spring. Looking back, I can see that this day also marks the beginning into my journey with my camera. I know when the new history of photography is reflected upon, that I will be part of the ranks of Mom's that picked up digital cameras. Some of us have made careers and others have found simple pleasure in expressing ourselves and sharing our lives on blogs, or photo sharing sites etc. I feel proud to be part of this movement. I have learned so much from fellow Moms/women photographers through forums and classes. I cannot say thank you enough to the many women who have unknowingly mentored me.
B also remembers this day and I am sure this will always be a special photograph for her as well. This is why I take pictures. Photographs do not replace the memory, they are not significant enough to do that, but they are the window or doorway to memory and that for me is all I need.
I am working on custom artwork commissioned by a client involving apples. Despite her brief moments of boredom, E. helped me immensely find the perfect apples. The light was so delicious, pink and glowy (not a word). I really love this time of the year.
I had lots of fun taking pictures of Thomas and Ariane. They were visiting from France and this was an impromtu photo shoot and despite not speaking a bit of french we were able to come away with some pretty good pics. Merci!
